Nubar inventsstit for Armenian Genealogy
In 2018, two friends decide to retrace their family history. They come up against the difficulties of Armenian genealogy (archives scattered around the world, changed names, difficulties in accessing these resources, ignorance of existing archives, etc.). Wishing to centralize all the historical data relating to Armenian emigration following the 1915 genocide, and to facilitate access to them, the two friends united to create the association Relais International de Généalogie Armenian (RIGA).
His mission ? Create an online database, accessible free of charge, compiling all the information concerning the Armenian diaspora from 1915 to 1945, in order to help the new generations of Armenians or of Armenian origin to obtain answers on the migratory past of their family .
To help him in his mission: the Nubar library. Founded in 1928, a mecca for the conservation and study of Armenian heritage destroyed during the genocide. With thousands of archives and documents on the Armenian world, the Nubar Library is both a place of scholarship and culture on the Middle East and the former Ottoman Armenian world, and a resource center on the question Armenian culture and the history of the Armenian Genocide.
Their common values pushing them towards the same goals, the Nubar library and the International Relay of Armenian Genealogy Association (RIGA) signify their willingness to associate through a partnership agreement.
The digitization of archives is at the heart of this partnership. By making its archives available to RIGA, the Nubar Library allows a wider dissemination of these, as well as simplified access for the Armenian community.
Since June 2022, the Nubar Library has opened its doors in RIGA and has already enabled the recovery and digitization of hundreds of documents such as the archives of the National Office for Armenian Refugees and the files of Armenian recruits during the Second World War._cc781905 -5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_
This joint action to safeguard and promote the Armenian historical heritage will lead to other digitization projects.
